How to Surprise Her on Valentine’s Day

How to Surprise Her on Valentine’s Day

While Valentine’s Day is a prime day to propose– that’s also the problem. Because its such a romantic day where proposals are quite popular, it’s harder make the proposal a huge surprise. After all, she is already expecting you to be romantic that day regardless of whether or not she’s expecting a proposal (just FYI, some girls DO expect a proposal on Valentine’s Day). You don’t just want to make it easy for her or give her something she expects, right? Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Here are some ways to make sure your Valentine’s Day proposal happens when she least expects it.

1. While Dancing

When I saw this video, I couldn’t believe how smooth this guy was. Not only do a lot of girls enjoy dancing and would probably enjoy it as a date on Valentine’s Day, but he seamlessly worked his proposal in after a smooth spin move. (Check out minute 1:30!). So take your girl dancing if that’s her thing or get a dance class together and work with the instructor ahead of time to show you how to do a cool move to lead into the proposal. She’ll never see it coming.

2. At Her Work

Think about it. She already expects your amazing Valentine’s Day dinner plans later in the evening, so why not catch her completely off guard while she’s at work? This guy did just that. He hired some musicians to make a fake singing telegram (it’s a guitarist, singer and a tuba player). At the very end of the song he comes in and starts singing to her himself. She was completely blown away by that surprise and was happy as can be. Imagine her head exploding as he pulled out the ring. She definitely had no clue it was happening then. Speed ahead to minute 4:00 to see how it went down.

3. Propose at midnight, the night before

Most people will be making plans for their incredible, romantic dates in the evening, so maybe to really get an edge on the proposal scene it would be best to start earlier. MUCH earlier. Many people already propose at midnight for the start of the New Year– why not have a late night date the day before Valentine’s Day, and as soon as the clock chimes midnight, pop the question! Not only will she be surprised but now you can enjoy every minute of Valentine’s Day this year as fiances (and she’ll think that’s super romantic!).

Mariah Carey’s Engagement Ring

Pop singer Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon renewed their vows April 30 to celebrate their two-year anniversary. This would be the couple’s third wedding, and yes, if you’re wondering if Mariah got a brand new ring for each wedding, she did. At this wedding he presented her with a ring designed like a Ring Pop except diamond-encrusted and comprised of white gold, diamonds and pink sapphires.

The ring was a reminder of how Nick proposed marriage to Mariah (by hiding her engagement ring inside a Ring Pop).

Mariah Carey’s engagement ring is equally extravagant. Her $2.5 million engagement ring by Jacob and Co. is a 17-carat emerald cut diamond surrounded with pink diamonds and two half-moon diamonds.

10 Great proposal ideas

10 Great proposal ideas

As Valentine’s Day inches closer, a lot of guys might be thinking of popping the question on the romantic holiday. Here are some ideas of sweet proposals that will sweep her off her feet.

1) Have an “engagementcation”

The growing trend of engagementcation is when a couple gets engaged while on a romantic getaway. If you have the dough to splurge, whisk your partner away to a beachy resort, then pop the question over a candlelit dinner that overlooks the ocean.

2) Spend the night in

Every now and then you have those nights where you just want to put on sweats, order Chinese, curl up on the couch and watch your favorite horror movie. These casual nights might not be your typical grandiose romantic date, so it’ll definitely be a surprise when you pull out a ring while she munches on pizza.

3) Create a scrapbook

If you’re on the crafty side, try putting together a scrapbook of pictures and other artifacts that represent both you and your relationship together. Later, over a bottle of wine, flip through the book together. As you both laugh and reminiscence, slyly pull out the ring and propose.

Some people even rent entire theaters to pop the question.

4) Record a video

If you’re the type who gets shy when placed on the spot, a good idea is to record your proposal ahead of time and then play it for her while having a romantic dinner-and-a-movie date at home. Pretend like the video is a movie you just rented. After she watches the video, get on one knee and present her with the ring.

5) Make it a special occasion

Do something you normally wouldn’t do, like cook dinner or clean the house. When she asks what’s the special occasion, tell her to get dressed because you’re going to take her out on a romantic date (or treat her to a romantic date at home). After she finishes getting ready, surprise her as she comes out with a proposal and a ring.

6) Create a mixed tape

If you’re a music-minded individual, create a mix tape consisting of your favorite songs that represent your relationship. At the end of the tape, record your proposal and add it to the end of the playlist. Remember to label the audio as something else so that she doesn’t suspect it.

7) Include pets

If you have a pet dog or cat, attach the engagement ring to the dog’s collar. [Editor’s Note: Be careful with this one. It would be horrible if the dog somehow managed to eat the ring.]

8) Write her a song

If you’re a musician, write a song that explains why you want to spend the rest of your life together, then perform the song for her during a special moment.

9) At a museum

If your girl’s an art buff, ask a local museum if they will let you display a picture of the two of you together. Then, while you’re both casually strolling through the museum, stop at the portrait and then surprise her with the proposal.

10) After doing something life threatening

If you’re the type of couple who likes skydiving or rock climbing, try proposing after finishing one of these feats. The adrenaline left over from jumping out of a plane or from driving a racecar makes it the perfect moment to realize how much you love each other.

The engagement ring trends for 2013

The engagement ring trends for 2013

Couples will be interested to create custom made, one of a kind designs, infusing romance and meaning into their engagement and wedding rings, by mixing diamonds with gem stones such as, her favorite color (Green Emeralds, Sapphire, Rubies, Tanzanite) The number of diamonds (example: 10) or total carat weight (example: 2.00 carats) a number that has a lot of meaning such as a special dates, for both her and him. In addition I see trends going into two tone and three tone designs by integrating various metals such as platinum with white, yellow or rose gold. The idea of create a unique one of a kind design will be very appealing and desired by many couples. I also see diamond shapes that have been less popular in the past 10 years, such as pear, oval and marquise gaining more popularity with couples.

The DO’s and DONT’s of Proposing at Christmas

The DO’s and DONT’s of Proposing at Christmas

Christmas time ’tis the season for proposals, but there are some things guys just need to know when it comes to proposing around this magical time.

DO make sure it’s absolutely magical. Horse drawn carriage rides? Walks gazing at the awesome Christmas lights? Those are all instant wins.

DONT forget about the details. If you’re going to be out in the cold, bring a blanket or an extra coat for your lady. Going to be out late at night? A flashlight could come in handy.

DO give her a fantastic ring.
DONT give her a ring and say it’s her Christmas present. Proposing at Christmastime does not mean you can cop out of giving her a gift.

DO spend time with your families. It’s Christmas after all! Either involve them with the proposal or plan a fantastic way to share the news with them.
DON’T propose in front of a large group unless you know she wouldn’t be freaked out by that. Nothing’s worse than a big fat rejection in front of the family during the holidays.

DO include tradition. Mistletoe, hot cocoa, Christmas carols– whatever takes your girl back to the magical days when she was a child– all of it can be great ways to make a unique proposal.
DON’T make it cliche. Ever. Just not cool. Find new and interesting twists to the old traditions and make fantastic memories. A Christmas carol that has the words changed to propose? Fantastic! Standing under the mistletoe but stopping mid-kiss to propose– genuis!

Daniel Levy-Owner

Daniel Levy is a third generation diamond cutter/jeweler. From the early age of ten years, growing up in Chicago’s jewelry district, I was inspired by my father, the diamond cutter and my uncles the jewelers. At a very young age I realized that diamonds are very rare, and that diamonds carry a distinct energy of beauty, love and strength. At the age of 23 together with my dear wife Lori, we decided to start our company importing and selling diamonds to many retail stores across the United States. Over the years our business evolved into what I am most passionate about, and that is designing one of a kind jewelry and working with clients direct. I am very grateful to be in a business where the product and services that we provide, bring a lot of joy and happiness, to many people. Once you work with us you become a close friend of Daniel Levy Jewelry for life.

“Our mission is to share 25 years of our experience in the jewelry business with our clients, by providing them with the best service, products and experience”.
